Via Ferrata ADVENTURES !
They challenge you both physically and mentally! We LOVE them!!!
The essence of a modern Via Ferrata is a steel cable that runs along the route and is periodically (every 3 to 30 ft) fixed to the rock.
Using a Via Ferrata harness, climbers can secure themselves to the cable, limiting the drop of any fall. Additional climbing aids, such as iron rungs, pegs, and bridges are often provided.
Note : Tim did fall on the Kentucky Via Ferrata and lived to tell the tale !
Thus, Via Ferratas allow otherwise dangerous routes to be undertaken without the risks associated with unprotected scrambling and climbing or the need for climbing equipment such as ropes. All you need is a good head for heights, the ability to handle exposure, and pretty good core and grip strength.
They offer a means of enjoying dramatic positions and accessing difficult peaks, normally reserved for the serious Mountaineer.
To date, Tim and Lani have completed (5) different Via Ferrata routes and are hoping to attempt many more in the future !!!
